St. Sofia Society Statement of Purpose: Our purpose is to provide anyone interested with access to rituals, practices, and teachings from a variety of religious traditions. An emphasis will be placed on inviting the participant to experience alternate and/or deeper modes of relating to divinity.

On Monday, November 5, 2007, St. Sofia Society will present a “change your mind” event to help students and other members of the MU community make connections with some of the resources for spiritual life available in Columbia. The focus will be on non-Christian spiritual traditions, including Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and traditional Chinese disciplines.

The Society invites groups who would like to reach out to the MU community to send a representative to make a brief presentation, provide contact information and conduct a short experiential activity.  This will be an informal event with no more than six presentations, so no elaborate preparations are needed.

Since the purpose of An Evening to Change Your Mind is to help members of the MU community connect with spiritual resources in the Columbia community, we are asking that presentations emphasize the practices and activities that your group offers, rather than extensive explanations of the tenets of the spiritual discipline.  After the presentations there will be a time for informal interaction between presenters and attendees. Presenters are asked to bring some flyers or handouts to distribute and may also bring a few books, images or other items that may be of use in introducing the spiritual discipline and your organization (tables provided) We are also arranging for an additional room for break-out sessions in which presenters can offer a brief experiential activity.

 Tentative schedule:

 8.00  Welcome and introductions

8.10  Presentations ( about 7-10 minutes each) by spiritual groups about their origins, teachings and practices

9.10  Informal conversations among attendees and presenters

9.10 – 9:30  Break-out sessions – introduction to practice.

Our Mission

Interfaith Center honors all sacred paths and healing journeys, co-creating a community of learners, teachers and healers.

WHO WE ARE

Interfaith Center is inclusive rather than exclusive. People of all faiths and spiritual orientations are welcome.

We believe that God has no favorites and that no one, regardless of their beliefs, is excluded from God's Kingdom.

We believe in developing a direct contact, loving relationship with God, humanity, and all creation.

We believe that by creating a greater understanding and appreciation for all people, we draw closer to the Spirit that lives within us all.

We draw upon the truth and beauty of all great spiritual teachers and sacred writings.

We seek to bring into focus the love, joy, serenity, wisdom, and healing that exists as the foundation of all Native Religions, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Sufism, Buddhism, Taoism, A Course in Miracles, and other teachings through worship, meditation, discussion, music and dance, workshops, seminars, classes, study groups, service projects and social gatherings.

We have no dogmas, laws, creeds, systems of belief, or required ways of believing.  We are non-denominational, God-centered celebrants of life and spirit.
